Cody McLean was diagnosed with Meningitis at a very young age and unfortunately lost his battle with the disease. Patches of Light created Cody's Corner to help educate the community about this disease and to help raise money for Central Ohio children diagnosed with Meningitis.
Cody was special! Of course, all grandmothers say that about their grandchildren. However, honestly, I think he knew his time here was short and God told him to soak everything up while he could. He always smiled, he never slept, and he captured everyone's heart, even strangers.
His grandfather, Ron, has never loved another so unconditionally! His uncle, Luke, who was only 14 years old at the time, adored him. Cody loved to listen to Luke play his guitar and drums. They spent a lot of time together. Cody played the drums and loved to dance to rock n' roll. He also loved to swim and could even swim underwater. Kaylee (his cousin) was his special buddy. He always lit up whenever she came to play.
His father, Dave, was an adopted child and had a very special bond with Cody. Cody was his only blood relative. Dave took him to the zoo and shared his love of motor-cross racing with him. Cody admired his dad. His mother, Mandie, was the love of his life! When she was near, he smiled from ear-to-ear! He knew she spent every minute taking care of his needs and wants. She loved being Cody's mom. However, after 3 1/2 weeks at Children's Hospital, she knew the time had come to give him back to the one who loved him the most, Jesus. It wasn't easy for her after trying to be so brave. Mandie was admired by many for her love and devotion to Cody. She made sure that the entire staff knew and loved Cody as much as she did before he died, and to this day, he is still remembered and loved by those he met.
Thank you for honoring our little Cody McLean.
Love,
Sharon

Local Hilliard Realtor, Heather Ernst writes:
A portion of each commission that I earn is given to two different organizations that are close to my heart. Each donation will be given in memory of Cody McLean in an effort to increase meningitis awareness and to remember one family’s very special little boy.
Columbus Children’s Hospital NICU/PICU
(Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)
Both of my children have spent time at Children’s Hospital in Columbus for health related issues; most recently my son for a seizure disorder at birth. My family and I feel so fortunate to have a Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. I hope to contribute in some small way and benefit those families whose children need to use the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units.
Patches of Light
Patches of Light is a non-profit organization that directly benefits critically ill children and their families at Columbus Children’s Hospital. All monies given to this organization help to offset costs that families incur while their children are at the hospital (overnight stays, meals, utility bills, etc.).
